Su nombre es Smith, Sam Smith. Después de una exitosa serie de conciertos en la Ciudad de México, el cantante británico Sam Smith se comunicó vía telefónica con Nick Grimshaw, conductor del programa The Radio 1 Breakfast Show de la BBC Radio, para presentar Writing's on the Wall, el tema oficial de 007 Spectre (Spectre), la vigésimo cuarta película del agente James Bond.
"No había pensado mucho en James Bond hasta dos días antes de hacer la canción" confesó el intérprete al ser cuestionado sobre el tema, que según cuenta compuso en veinte minutos. "La gente ha dicho, incluso antes de ser lanzada, que la canción les recuerda a Goldfinger y eso es algo bueno.. la orquestración, el feeling, todo es similar", agregó.
Con Writing's on the Wall, Smith se convierte en el primer hombre inglés en interpretar en solitario el tema principal de una película de James Bond desde Tom Jones con Thunderball en 1965. Los datos no terminan ahí, el tema producido por Jimmy Napes y el dúo de música electrónica Disclosure, podría ser el primero en dominar los listados en el Reino Unido; "No pienso en el número uno, sólo quiero unirme y hacerle justicia a la larga lista de artistas que se pueden encontrar en Wikipedia" respondió Smith al ser cuestionado sobre las expectativas de su compañía discográfica, sin embargo hay otro récord que el cantante si podría igualar: la nominación al Oscar como Mejor Canción Original que en 2012 conquistó Adele con el tema de Skyfall; "No quiero pensar en que eso pase, pero si pasa sólo quiero conocer a Meryl Streep" admitió Smith.
007 Spectre se estrenará en nuestro país, una de las locaciones de la cinta, el jueves cinco de Noviembre.
